Nubra is often called the valley of flowers, the valley so vast and so beautiful lies in the North of ladakh at 10000ft high.the only way to reach this valley is a drive through Khardungla pass,it is one of the highest motorable passes in the world standing at the height of (17815 feet).the snow melt waters of shyok river feeds the valley of nubra, people here grow barley,wheat,corn and apricots.It is a pristine no man’s land,consisting of the small villages of Sumoor,Hunder,Diskit, Panamik. Sumoor is famous for its Samstemling Gompa,which was founded by Lama Tsultrim Nima about 150 years ago.the village of Hunder is famous for its vast stretch of sandunes,bactarian camels and chamba monastery, Diskit village has the famous 14th century monastery build by Changzem Tserab Zangpo which belongs to the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Panamik village is known for it’s sulphur rich hot water springs it is the last village open to tourists,after few kilometers from here siachin glacier starts. For the nubra valley tour inner line permits are required for both indian and foreign tourists,in the last few years since nubra was opened for tourism,lot of people come here every year to visit this serene and beautiful valley. Maan. the dwellers of these villages totally depend on raising cattle for their livehood .The still beauty of this lake and the mountains that surround it give a unique visual treat that few other places in the world can match.
